Fishing from a boat without a boat licence

You don't need a licence for our fishing boats: you must be 18+, that's all. How that works, what you learn beforehand and the rules on the water.

Why no licence is needed

In the Netherlands you only need a boat licence for motorboats longer than 15 metres or faster than 20 km/h. Our aluminium fishing boats are much shorter and the outboard is deliberately modest: fast enough to get to the other side of the lake quickly, but under that limit. That's why you can drive them from age 18 without a licence.

What you learn before you leave

No licence doesn't mean we just put you on the water. Before you leave we go through:

  • Starting, throttle, reverse and switching the engine off.
  • Mooring and pushing off, also in wind.
  • The chart: where the channels run and where it's shallow.
  • The basic rules: keep right, give way to commercial traffic and sailing boats, slow down near other boats and anglers.
  • What to do in case of a breakdown: call us, we come and get you.

Life jackets are on board. It takes ten minutes, and then you're on your own.

Useful to know as an angler

When you're stationary on a spot, make sure you're outside the channel and visible. Cut the engine before approaching a spot so you don't spook the fish. In strong wind or thunderstorms we don't go out; we contact you and plan another moment.

What you do need

A valid VISpas for everyone who fishes, a valid ID and warm clothing. The rest β€” fuel, chart, life jackets β€” is included. See the prices and book online.
